Product Marketing Manager, Level 3

Requires 8 years of Medical Device Marketing experience with preference for Spine or Spinal surgery marketing experience.  3-5 years P&L experience.  Bachelor's degree in Marketing or related field required.    MBA preferred.   

This position is based out of Union City, California.  Mizuho OSI can offer relocation assistance for this position.

Mizuho engineers, working with leading Orthopedic Surgeons, continuously develop new surgical techniques to drive the market. The Product Marketing Manager provides full product and market oversight for assigned products. Responsible for strategic planning, pricing analysis, product portfolio management, competitive market analysis and budgeting. Serves as a marketing advisor providing product and market overviews, coordination of product development activities, and in-depth business case analysis/recommendations. Establishes systems, programs, policies and procedures. Develops, leads, and implements marketing programs and support to drive procedure adoption of Mizuho OSI products amongst targeted surgeons, and patient audiences. Compiles and reports on department activities and achievement of goals and objectives to higher level management.

This PMM is responsible for the following current products as well as expansion of the line:

  • INSITETM - A Multi-Procedural Surgery Table with Superior Imaging Access and Excellent Surgical Access
  • Spinal Surgery Top - Spinal Surgery Positioning with Exceptional C-arm and O-arm® Access
  • Axis System - The Latest Evolution of the Modular Table System with Breaking Hinge Technology
  • Radiolucent Imaging Top - For Unrestricted C-Arm Use with Anterior/Posterior, Lateral and Oblique Intra-operative Imaging
  • Allegro® - For Progressive Minimally Invasive Image-Guided Procedures


  • Understand, support and follow the Corporate Vision, Mission & Values Statements.
  • Support company goals and objectives.
  • Understand, follow and support Mizuho OSI's internal Quality System policies, procedures and work instructions including but not limited to applicable external regulations (21 Code of Federal Regulations Part 820 Quality System Regulations and applicable International Standards).
  • Develop/Implement/Monitor progress of a comprehensive strategic marketing plan to include measurable metrics, objectives, goals, strategies, tactics, in-depth competitive market/product analysis, and timetable. Implement both long and short-term plans.  Monitor results and implement adjustments where appropriate.
  • Perform market trends/analysis, product pricing and promotion.
  • Develop, plan and implement product launches and product distribution.
  • Work independently and in a team environment, manage multiple projects and lead/collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive the product development process.
  • Interface with advertising agency to provide advertising with core brand equity, develop product/market awareness campaigns, and coordinate all key trade show marketing inputs. Ensure all POS/Marketing Materials meet company approved branding and trademark guidelines, and obtain final approval from the appropriate departments.
  • Responsible for developing/implementing/monitoring a marketing budget and forecast  relating to assigned product portfolio, conventions and meetings, advertising/promotions, literature, etc.
  • Oversee the New Business Analysis Criteria Model and make recommendations for any new product, line extension, and market opportunity to the Director Marketing and other Senior Management personnel.
  • Train current and newly hired sales employees on marketing strategy, sales support materials, and key marketing programs to drive their Mizuho OSI business.
  • As the clinical interface work closely with key surgeons and product development to define market and product requirements for new products/markets needed to further enable key surgical procedures and drive procedure adoption.
  • Responsible for the evaluation of pricing/profitability of the assigned product portfolio, and for making recommendations for changes with justification, where required to meet the corporate goals.  Submit price changes for approval by Director Marketing.
  • Attend and report to all meetings in assigned product/market area.
  • Interface with RA/QA Department where appropriate regarding product complaints and coordinate resolution.
  • Ensure that product line is in compliance with FDA issues in coordination with RA/QA Department.
  • Responsibility for the customer interface relating to product/market resolution for functional   and clinical issues
  • Requires 30-40% travel with some weekend traveling.

Duties are performed while sitting at a desk for long periods of time. Required duties include operating a computer, reading, writing and using a telephone. Bending, stooping and kneeling occasionally may be required.   The employee may be required to lift 25 pounds. Some international travel may be required.

  • Excellent Strategic Plan development and Implementation skills and experience.
  • Strong Analytical, Business Modeling/Analysis experience, forecasting and competitive product/market analysis skills.
  • Strong team building skills and demonstrated success in working in a matrix organization.
  • Prior responsibility for P&L.  Excellent strategic business acumen skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive information.
  • Ability to demonstrate strategic planning techniques.
  • Excellent MS Office skills.
  • Ability to handle situations with tact and professionalism and set an excellent example and quality image to all company personnel, customers, and the public.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of ethics and values in performing all assigned duties.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Product Marketing Manager, Level 3 (specific) 

Job Knowledge: Uses ability as a skilled PMM to contribute in development of concepts and techniques, and  to complete tasks in creative and effective ways.

Job Complexity: Works on assignments that are extremely complex in nature where independent action and a high degree of initiative are required in resolving problems and developing recommendations.

Planning/ Organizing: Actively participates in comprehensive development of plans including an outline of duties and project assignments. 

Supervision: Works with the department head and independently to determine methods and procedures on new assignments and supervises the activities of other junior level role.  May lead teams in a changing environment and based on priorities

Communication:  Communicates as an internal consultant to management on new methods or procedures. 

Experience/Education Needed (typical):  Requires 8 years of Medical Device Marketing exp. with preference for Orthopedics, Spine, Capital equipment; or consumer marketing experience.  With 3-5 years P&L experience.  Bachelor's degree in Marketing or related field required.    MBA preferred.
