SCOPE

The Software Engineer will Analyze, design, develop, and maintain software for use in or with surgical equipment. Write software for system level development, manufacturing test fixtures, and other PC-Based applications. Conduct testing utilizing existing test protocols or create new ones as needed. Generate written reports. Contribute to the intellectual property position of the company via invention and patent application. Maintain accurate documentation of concepts, designs, and processes consistent with QSR and FDA requirements.

Duties:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Understand, support, and follow the Mizuho OSI vision, mission, and values statements.
  • Support Mizuho OSI goals and objectives.
  • Understand, follow, and support Mizuho OSI's internal quality system policies, procedures, and work instructions, and applicable external regulations (including but not limited to 21 CFR part 820 and applicable international standards).
  • Analyze, design, code, debug, test and maintain embedded control system software and/or Windows based application software.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate internal and external software development  resources.
  • Generate design documentation including specifications, risk assessment, software verification and validation, test suites, test results, and other analyses in accordance with FDA ISO software design control requirements.
  • Interpret technical instructions, schematic drawings, component specifications, software code, and regulatory requirements.
  • Diagnostic troubleshooting of circuits, boards, power supplies, and control systems using oscilloscopes, signal generators, and/or logic analyzers.
  • Adhere to Mizuho OSI's software development process.  And if in a more senior role, create and/or maintain software development processes.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge in C, C++, and assembly level computer languages.
  • Software development experience in a Windows environment.
  • Knowledge of systems control with embedded microprocessors, firmware development, gate arrays, system micro controllers, motor controllers, digital signal controllers, sensors, RS485 communication techniques.
  • Knowledge of software engineering principles, practices, and techniques.  PIC/MPLAB experience preferred.
  • Ability to apply engineering principles using logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills are highly desirable.
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple functions.

Level: SW Principal Engineer, Level 4

Professional Level: Specialist / Consultant to middle management

Advancing Technology: Identifies, recommends, plans, and completes technical programs leading to innovative applications and extensions of existing and new products, processes or technologies of major importance to a business unit.  Presents and publishes work internally and externally where appropriate.

Problem Complexity: Analyzes and solves unusually complex problems which require sophisticated analysis or research techniques.

Knowledge - Technical: Possesses extensive expertise as a generalist or specialist in engineering discipline and contributes directly to the development of new concepts, processes, and techniques.

Knowledge - Business: Understands business environment and relates extensive knowledge of internal and external technological activities to trends.

Leadership:   Interfaces with senior management on significant matters, often requiring the coordination of activity across organizational units.   Participates in the development of other technical contributors by facilitating training and providing feedback and guidance.  May lead a project team.  Provides technical leadership to departments.

Decision-Making Impact: Selects research and design methods and techniques to lead a project to completion.  Erroneous decisions or recommendations would normally result in failure to achieve critical organizational objectives and the expenditure of large amounts of company resources.  Effects would be long lasting and heavily influence the future course of the organization.

Communication: Interacts with senior internal, external or customer representatives on significant technical matters, often requiring coordinating activity across organizational lines.

Supervision: Work is performed without appreciable direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives of and approaches to assignment.  Completed work is reviewed from a relatively long time perspective, for desired results.

  • PhD in Computer Science or related field & < 3 YOE
